Space Baby

Space Baby

Three friends must stand up to fascism in order to rebuild the holy grail and get a new soul for the earth. Each friend is different. 8-year-old Sam ("Mental Man") is a scientist and staunch atheist; 6-year-old Sophia ("Nature Girl") is a caretaker of the earth and worships a female god of nature; 300-year-old Blue (a great ballplayer like Satchel Paige) was the keeper of the holy grail in Africa, and practices all religions. With help from a squadron of ladybugs, they fight the "greed, intolerance and just plain cruelty" that Nurse Nancy and her demonic crow inhabit.

Director Biography - Rex Dean
One of nine kids raised on a farm in Colorado, Rex Dean moved to New
England to attend Harvard College where he studied Government alongside future Secretary of State Antony Blinken (who wrote an article about Rex's cover band, The Standard Deviants). After working as a computer programmer for many years, Dean decided to follow his dream and wrote, produced and directed his first feature film. SPACE BABY may be the first and only family sci-fi comedy ever filmed by a family in their own home. Shot on 35mm in Waltham, Mass. the film stars his three children, in character as Mental Man, Nature Girl, and Space Baby. With the untimely death in 1998 from AIDS of the film’s investor — gay activist and Wall Street wizard Michael Palm — the film has been self-funded ever since, which led to delay of nearly 25 years. Today Dean resides in Los Angeles close to all three children, writing songs and working on more films.
